How can we create sustainable Media Arts organizations? Many cultural workers at our centres live below the poverty line. Low wages result in high turnover. Regional funding discrepancies exacerbate the problem, sometimes sparking inter-provincial migration. Our wages are out of touch with other Canadian Cultural Sectors.

Building on the excellent work coming from the Prairie/NWT Region last year, the Employment Standards Committee would like IMAA to prioritize setting up national wage standards for media arts organizations. We suggest a schedule of payment based on national standards in the non-profit sector.

We would like to see these schedule implemented in the future in the same manner IMAA and CARFAC rates have been implemented. We recommend that established rates be adjusted yearly to reflect inflation.

Please add your input and suggestions.

At the very least, I would like IMAA to request that salaries/wages be outlined in Canada Council applications for Media Arts Organizations. This information is not requested at present.
