Communications Coordinator | SAVAC | August 25

The Communications Coordinator is responsible for managing SAVAC’s communications with members and the public. The Coordinator will work with SAVAC staff to develop outreach materials, coordinate press coverage of SAVAC programming, manage the organization’s website, social media accounts and e-newsletter, and maintain consistency in the organization’s messaging to its audiences. The Coordinator will be responsible for member engagement and recruitment through workshops and providing support through individual communication. Communications Coordinator reports to the Executive Director and Board of Directors.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the development of databases including membership, subscribers, media, etc.
  • Collect documentation of all SAVAC projects for website, archive, funder reporting and promotional purposes
  • Manage creation, distribution, and maintenance of print and electronic materials
  • Consistent and engaging postings and conversations on social media outlets, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube, as appropriate
  • Maintain and update the organizational website with event announcements, photos, news articles, newsletters, press releases, etc.
  • Liaise in a friendly, personable and professional manner with all SAVAC members, fielding comments and enquiries as required
  • Compile and circulate Member News
  • Coordinate membership renewals, membership drives and manage all membership administration
  • Manage and develop SAVAC’s media list
  • In coordination with the Programming Coordinator/Artistic Director and appropriate co-presenting partners, draft press releases for each program and distribute to media list
  • In consultation with the Executive Director, manage and develop outreach/education programs that support the professional development of SAVAC membership
  • Work within budget guidelines, book dates, venues, liaise with artists and/or workshop facilitators and organize materials/equipment to deliver workshops and other outreach activities
  • Provide regular progress reports to the Executive Director and Board of Directors and prepare detailed reports including accurate statistics for presentation to funding bodies
  • Help other staff members to prepare for workshops, trainings, guest speaker engagements, and other events to ensure that all communications are accurate and consistent
  • Gather documentation of SAVAC programs for grants and reports for funders
  • Assist with donor development initiatives as required
  • Assist with other projects as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 2 years experience in communications and outreach employment or equivalent paid or volunteer experience in the sector
  • Experience with WordPress
  • Experience with Photoshop/InDesign
  • Experience working with email marketing services
  • Savvy with promoting events, engaging with people, and cultivating organisational identity on social media
  • Ability to work in a small, engaged workplace
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively without supervision
  • High capacity to multitask and meet deadlines
  • Able to troubleshoot and creatively problem solve in areas of budgeting, exhibition design and installation
  • Must be comfortable with flexible work environment and variable work schedule
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including both written and verbal communication skills Strong project management skills
  • Strong written English in a variety of writing styles from curatorial essays, to granting language
  • Understanding of barriers faced by artists of colour
  • Knowledge of contemporary South Asian art

ADDITIONAL CRITERIA

  • Knowledge of, or involvement with artist-run centres in Canada
  • Knowledge of a second language

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • 1 year renewable contract
  • 21-25 hr/wk
  • Evening/weekend hours may be required
  • Compensation to commensurate with experience in the field. Communications Coordinator is entitled to a basic health and dental package
