Join us for Arts Day on the Hill!

Join us on Tuesday, October 25th for Arts Day on the Hill!

This event is a great opportunity for artists, arts managers and board members of arts organizations across the country to meet with Members of Parliament. It’s our opportunity to bring arts advocates from across the country together to collectively to speak to federal stakeholders and to talk with them about the value that the arts bring to Canadian communities. Arts Day on the Hill is one of our most successful ways to engage parliamentarians and get their support on specific Coalition requests. With the election of a majority Liberal government and the announcement of significantlyincreased funding to the Canada Council for the Arts last fall, it might seem like the need isn’t as great for Arts Day this year. But it’s especially in times of plenty that it becomes important to meet with our government representatives, to build a positive relationship with them and to share with them the value our organizations bring to life in Canada. Artists and Parliamentarians have much to accomplish together in the next four years. We invite you to join the momentum on Parliament Hill for renewed support for artists across the country!

How can you get involved?

Make the Trip to Ottawa

Artists, arts managers and board members of arts organizations who are members of the Canadian Arts Coalition are invited to make the trip to Ottawa to present the Coalition’s messages to MPs, senators and senior officials. We’re looking for people who can speak convincingly about the value that the arts bring to Canadian communities and the role that federal investment plays – this is an opportunity to let your passion show! It’s also very important to us to demonstrate strong national support by having representatives from all regions of our country participate, as well as a diversity of language, culture and artistic practice.

Take Part on Social Media!

Can’t make it to Ottawa? We’re looking for Social Media Ambassadors! Equally as important as the participants on the Hill are our collective voices on social media. We’re seeking artists and arts organizations across the country to help amplify our messages online, leading up to and on October 25. Arts Day participants will be posting updates and sharing how their meetings went throughout the day. Find us on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram to join the fun.

Here are some ways you can be a social media ambassador for Arts Day on the Hill

  • Use the hashtag #ArtsDay to join the conversation and to amplify it with your retweets.
  • Join our #ArtsDay tweet chat, where we’ll be sharing our key messages and talking about how you can engage your MP throughout the year
  • Take #ArtsDay into your riding by tweeting to your own community and retweeting our tweets.
  • If you’re unfamiliar with social media, but you think Arts Day is a good enough reason to jump in, keep an eye on our blog where we’ll be sharing our social media primer and more tips on how to engage and advocate on social media.

Renew your Membership

Arts Day is also a great time to renew your organization’s membership with the Canadian Arts Coalition or to contribute individually.

Your contribution will help to defray the significant cost to run Arts Day – from meeting space and catering to translation and public affairs advice. You can sign up online, and we’ll be happy to send you an invoice. And if you have questions about whether or not your organization is a member of the Coalition, please contact info@canadianartscoalition.ca.

With your support, we can make this Arts Day on Parliament Hill a success – both in Ottawa and in the ridings across Canada!
